View Logs: Dads S1 Episode 4
Episode Title: Funny GirlYou now... this episode sincerely started out well... Ok it wasn't the best opening I've ever seen for sitcoms but it was alteast competent. I actually got my hopes up that I might not be wishing I was broken while watching this... then the episode went into the 2 minute mark... and the bad jokes came again.
"Oh yeah he was arrested he was the east bay strangler."
"Oooooh he was always talking about east bay and strangling but I never put two and two together."
*audience laughs*
It astounds me how lame these jokes are. It astounds me FURTHER that there's actual live people who laughed at this. Every time a Dads episode start with "this was recorded in front of a live audience" I just think I'm watching something from a parallel dimension or something. How could ANYONE laugh at that is beyond me.
But let's get to the positives because... unlike the previous three episodes, there's actually some improvements. Well for one. There's an actual normal story that develops for once. And each development feels natural. Isn't it nice when characters actually... well... engage with each other and actually learn from their situations?
Seriously... this scene right above this text?... Actually was setup early in the episode, developed, then paid off with dialogue that was a little less hamfisted than that in the pilot. This show is improving... but it's not improving nearly enough to even be atleast a competent sitcom. Let's hope the "non-jokes" actually disappears because I don't think I can take much more of that. We already have Adam Sandler for terrible humor Family Guy writers... you don't need to contribute to that.
